A contemporary lakeside retreat, Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Hämeenlinna brings Finnish heritage and modern comfort together on the shores of Lake Vanajavesi. Fully refurbished guest rooms frame views of the surrounding landscape while weaving in stories of Hämeenlinna’s history, from the medieval castle and the old Härkätie route to Iittala’s renowned glass art and the region’s rich craft traditions.
The Challenge
Create guest rooms that feel distinctly local within an established hotel brand—spaces that express Hämeenlinna’s identity, withstand heavy use, and still deliver the calm, refined comfort today’s travellers expect.
Our Solution
Standard fully furnished 123 completely renovated rooms, working within an interior concept by Vertti&Co that celebrates local narratives. Metal, glass, and wood were combined to echo Hämeenlinna’s craftsmanship and surrounding nature, while tactile textiles and warm lighting bring a sense of intimacy to the spaces. Custom headboards and detailing reference the forms of the nearby castle and lakeshore, creating a subtle dialogue between past and present. The result is a hotel where history, landscape, and contemporary Nordic comfort meet in a cohesive, welcoming guest experience.
